The Kiosk Cafe is a favorite destination for us here in Budapest. This painting captures a lazy Sunday morning. The cafe is housed in a beautiful period building behind the Parish Church next to the Erszebet Hid.
I tried a new technique in this small painting, (5x7). It is done in watercolor with a value underpainting in yellow. This was finished for a friend in Budapest.
A watercolor scene of Szabadsag Ter. This is a park, a few blocks from our apartment, that I walk through quite often.
The building in the background is the Hungarian National Bank, built in 1905. In October 2016 we moved to Budapest. I have been surrounded by beautiful buildings and lovely parks. This watercolor is titled "View of Parliament from the balcony; morning light" and it is the first in a series of cityscapes that I will be painting here.
This spring I am focusing on landscape painting. What follows are two paintings from a plein air workshop in Tuscany. These are my early attempts at capturing landscapes in oil. The first two photos are of my painting at the site of the roman ruins in Fiesole, Italy, which is just north of Florence. The third is a view from the balcony of my apartment in Fiesole. I am painting small, 8 by 10 inch canvas panels, so this third photo is approx. actual size.
My watercolor portrait of my mother, Mary Ann, won second prize at the AAWA spring juried show at Mallets Creek Library.
I am trying my hand with oil paint, and finding it exciting! The Zorn palette of only two colors with black and white has been extremely helpful with the color mixing at this stage. Below you can view my recent efforts...
My friend and fellow studio artist is relocating to Washington DC...so I had to finish the promised portrait of Sarah and Earl this week!
